Patch notes for October 16, 2026

Patch notes for October 16, 2026

Everything we shipped from October 1 to October 16, 2026.

Found a bug or have an idea? Tell us on Fluxer Feedback. To join the discussion with the team and other users, come to Fluxer Labs.

Starting with this post, we'll publish patch notes every Friday. This first edition includes everything from October 1 to October 16, 2026.

Patch notes are about what we've shipped. We've also reworked our roadmap with a lot more detail, and it shows what we're building next.

Roadmap 2026
Where Fluxer is headed in 2026 and what we're working on next.

Everything in this post has been released. Some of it only shows up once your app updates, and how that happens depends on how you installed Fluxer. Near the bottom of this post, you can see how to update each app, whichever way you installed it.

The new desktop app is stable

I've spent months building a new architecture for the Fluxer desktop app, and I'm happy to say it's stable on Windows, macOS and Linux. Before, the desktop app loaded the Fluxer web app from web.fluxer.app every time it started. With the new architecture, the interface comes with the app as a module and loads from your computer through the app's own fluxer-app:// address.

The interface, the spellcheck dictionaries, DeepFilterNet noise suppression, camera effects, code highlighting and the fonts for Chinese, Japanese and Korean are separate modules that each update from pkgs.fluxer.com. The app checks each module's SHA-256 checksum before it installs it. The app itself, meaning Electron and Fluxer's native code, updates on its own schedule through the installer or your package manager. Official installs of version 2026.1012 or newer get module updates, but older versions keep the interface they have until the app itself updates. On Linux, the Flathub version is behind and doesn't have most of these changes yet. Until Flathub accepts our update, you can install the official Flatpak from our repository at pkgs.fluxer.com. Here's how to switch.

With the interface on your computer, the desktop app can connect to any Fluxer instance, not only Fluxer.app. It looks up each instance's discovery document to find its API and settings, and then sends requests directly to that instance. You can add accounts on Fluxer.app and on self-hosted instances to the account switcher and switch between them. You'll find everything else that changed in the desktop app further down.

Much better mobile apps

We made 198 changes to the mobile apps in these two weeks, and 131 of them are bug fixes. The rest are mostly polish and quality-of-life improvements. For example, you can filter message search by who sent a message, who it mentions, date and channel. If you leave the app while a message with attachments is uploading, the upload keeps going, though on iOS only for as long as the system allows. You can also choose what double-tapping a message does. If you tried the beta before and ran into rough edges, please give the latest beta a try.

Biggest changes

  • Communities can have announcement channels on web, desktop, iOS and Android. When you publish a message in one, every channel that follows it gets a copy. Anyone who can manage webhooks in a community can make one of that community's channels follow an announcement channel.
  • Threads and forums are on for everyone on web, desktop, iOS and Android. They're still in early beta, and if something breaks, please report it on Fluxer Feedback.
  • Calls can connect peer-to-peer for lower latency once everyone in the call agrees to let the others see their IP address. In a peer-to-peer call, everyone can stream at up to 4K and 60 fps for free, the same quality Plutonium gives you in other calls. On iOS, you can't share your screen in a peer-to-peer call yet. This is an early preview that we're still working on. On Fluxer.app, only some people have it while we roll it out by country on web, desktop, iOS and Android, but instance admins can already try it on their own instance in the admin panel.
  • On Linux, global shortcuts and push-to-talk in the desktop app work on Wayland through your desktop environment's shortcut settings, with guided setup for GNOME, KDE and Hyprland.
  • There's an official Helm chart for running a complete Fluxer instance on Kubernetes. It's in deploy/helm/fluxer in the Fluxer repository, and the Kubernetes guide explains how to install it.
  • New self-hosted instances can let people sign up and sign in with just a username, with a recovery kit for forgotten passwords. Instance admins pick this in the setup wizard, and instances that were already running stay on email sign-in.
  • On iOS and Android, you can filter message search by who sent a message, who it mentions, date and channel, and by whether it's pinned or has links, files or embeds.

Fluxer Feedback is here

Fluxer Feedback at feedback.fluxer.com is the one place for bug reports and feature requests. It replaces GitHub issues and discussions, the old in-app bug reporting and bug reports by email. We copied posts from GitHub over with their comments and votes. If you wrote posts or comments on GitHub, you can claim them under "Settings" > "GitHub account".

You don't need an account to read the site, but you need to sign in with your Fluxer account to post, comment and vote.

  • Report a bug or request a feature. After you type a title, the site shows similar posts, and if one matches, you can upvote it.
  • You can upvote, comment on and follow posts, and your inbox on the site tells you about replies and status changes.
  • When we mark a bug fixed, you can tell us "Fixed for me" or "Still happening". If you reported the bug and it still happens, it goes back to our team to look at again.
  • Read the changelog for each platform, including changes we've finished but not released yet.
  • Pick up a bug from the Bounties board. It lists bugs our reviewers can't reproduce yet, and if a reviewer uses the steps you post, you get the bounty's XP.
  • Follow posts, lists and the changelog in any feed reader with the Atom feeds.

Every bug report and feature request credited in these notes is a post on Fluxer Feedback. If something is broken or missing, please tell us there. To see what helps us most, read What a good bug report looks like.

Fluxer.app

These changes are on Fluxer.app's servers, and you get them on web, desktop, iOS and Android without updating anything. Self-hosted instances get most of them by updating to the latest images, and the Self-hosting section has what's different for instance admins.

New

  • When we take action on an account, the owner gets a notice by email, and also as a system message if they can still use the account. The notice says which rule applies, what we found, how we decided and how to appeal, and it includes a decision ID and the deadline to appeal. A matching notice goes out when a restriction ends or is reversed.

Improved

  • When we review something you reported, we tell you what we decided in a system message and by email.
  • When your connection drops, the app reconnects faster, especially when lots of people are reconnecting at the same time.
  • Featured categories in the GIF picker load faster when we haven't saved a copy of them yet.
  • When you delete a community, it's gone right away, and we delete its channels, messages and settings in the background.
  • If you're allowed to manage channels in a category, you can create new channels in it.
  • When you start a thread from a message, a notice shows up in the channel unless it's one of the last five messages there.
  • By default, new accounts accept direct messages from people they share a community with. In the web and desktop app, a dot shows on the settings button and a "Review who can message you" notice shows in "Privacy" settings until you've chosen or confirmed this setting.
  • You can buy Plutonium at a local price without first verifying a card from that country.
  • Pix is the only way to pay in Brazilian reais.
  • People in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland pay a fixed Plutonium price in their own currency for subscriptions and gifts. You can pay in Icelandic krona for the first time. The Faroe Islands and Greenland get the Danish price, and Svalbard gets the Norwegian one.
  • We've phased out in-app phone verification on Fluxer.app and self-hosted instances. It was too expensive to run, and our other anti-spam systems do the job without it. You don't need to add a phone number to use Fluxer or join a community, and that's one less piece of personal data you have to share with us.
  • Communities choose from four verification levels for new members. "None" requires nothing, "Low" requires a verified email address, "Medium" also requires an account that's at least 5 minutes old, and "High" also requires being a member of the community for at least 10 minutes. On instances where people sign in with a username, "Low" and "Medium" require a claimed account. The "Very high" level, which required a verified phone number, is gone, and communities that used it work like "High".
  • We stop trying to load previews from slow external websites sooner. We wait 3 seconds for the website to connect and 10 seconds for it to send more data, and we stop retrying after 15 seconds.

Fixed

  • Fixed some videos, images and files failing to load when our storage or an external website sent them in large chunks.
  • Fixed large images and animations failing to load when you open them at full size. When a file is too big for us to convert, you see the original file.
  • Fixed large JPEG XL images failing to load. 8-bit still images without transparency load if they're up to about 50 megapixels, and we scale them down to fit when needed.
  • Fixed resized images and previews sometimes loading broken or garbled. Reported by Fullest in #3516.
  • Fixed message search not treating text in curly or other typographic quotes as an exact phrase, the way it does with plain quotes.
  • Fixed @everyone and @here pinging people in one-to-one direct messages. In group chats they still ping everyone.
  • Fixed voice permissions not updating for people already in a voice channel when someone changed the everyone role or deleted one of their roles.
  • Fixed most cases of people showing as offline for a moment when one of our servers restarts, but it can still happen sometimes.
  • Fixed authenticator app setup asking you to confirm your identity before it checked whether your code was wrong.
  • Fixed not being able to confirm sensitive changes with your password when two-factor was turned on but you had no usable method left.
  • Fixed emails and error messages using the wrong language when your browser or device is set to Traditional Chinese, including Hong Kong and Macau, or to Norwegian Bokmål or Nynorsk.
  • Fixed Plutonium checkout, receipts, invoices and subscription confirmations using your old address after you changed your account email. Reported by rileylov and Brize-Glace in #261 and #311.
  • Fixed a refund counting as two refunds and blocking future purchases when our payment provider reported it twice.
  • Fixed a Plutonium gift adding too little time if you redeemed it during a paid subscription after an earlier gift had already ended. You get the full gift time after your current paid period.
  • Fixed deleted bots keeping their avatar, banner, bio and pronouns.
  • Fixed messages from a deleted bot moving to a new account that wasn't marked as a bot. The messages stay with the bot, which shows as "Deleted User". Reported by PaperTobi in #3477.

Web and desktop app

The desktop app and the web app are the same app underneath, and you get everything in this section in both.

New

Threads and forums

Threads and forums are on for everyone. They're still in early beta, and if something breaks, please report it on Fluxer Feedback.

  • You can start a thread from a message in a text or announcement channel, and each thread is its own conversation off the main channel. Text channels can also have private threads that only the people you invite and moderators can see. Administrators can set up thread permissions in role and channel settings.
  • Communities can create forum channels, where each topic is its own post with tags. A forum channel shows a list of posts and a box for starting a new one, and it has its own tag settings and a tag picker. Media channels work the same way for posts built around images and videos. Changes to forum channels show up in the audit log. Suggested by librebrew and mangafan in #3665 and #3586.
  • When developer mode is on, you'll find "Debug thread" in the thread menu, and it opens the same debug view that channels have. Reported by Tempest in #3648.

Messages and communities

  • When you hover over a labeled link to another site in a message, you'll see the real address it points to, with a warning icon if you haven't marked that site as trusted. On mobile web, press and hold the link to see the address. Suggested by arthur in #1455.
  • When someone links to a message or channel in a public Discovery community you haven't joined, the link shows the community's name and icon, and channel links also show the channel name. When you click one, you join the community and go to the message or channel.
  • Communities can create announcement channels, or turn a text channel into one in channel settings. When you publish a message there, every channel that follows the announcement channel gets a copy, and editing or deleting the message updates the copies too. You can publish 10 messages in a row in an announcement channel, and after that you can publish one more every 6 minutes.
  • People who can manage webhooks in a community can follow an announcement channel so its messages get posted in one of their community's channels. Followed channels are listed under "Webhooks" in channel and community settings, where you can change the name the messages show up under, pick another channel for them or unfollow.

Voice and video

  • Where it's turned on, the people in a call can connect directly to each other (peer-to-peer) for lower latency. This is an early preview that we're still working on, and on Fluxer.app we're turning it on gradually, country by country. Before you join one, a prompt asks you to agree that the others in the call can see your IP address, and you can choose to always agree. Everyone in a peer-to-peer call gets Plutonium stream quality for free, up to 4K and 60 fps.
  • Channel managers can turn on "P2P calls only" for a voice channel in channel settings. When a voice channel is empty, its menu has "Start P2P call", and during a peer-to-peer call you can pick "Switch to standard call" in the voice menu.
  • If you have Higher Video Quality, you can pick your own screen share bitrate in "Voice & video" settings or leave it on "Automatic". The choices go up to 9 Mbps on Fluxer.app.

Privacy and safety

  • Group chat owners can turn on "Mature content" for the group in "Edit group", as long as everyone in it is 18 or older. Each member still sees media according to their own sensitive content settings.
  • A dot on settings and a note on the privacy page ask you to review who can send you direct messages, either anyone in your communities or friends only. The review shows your current setting, and "Keep my current settings" leaves it as it is. Reported by TakoSalad in #3737.
  • If messaging is paused on your account, a banner across the app asks you to check your email and finish a quick step to start messaging again. When something you try to do is blocked, the app tells you why it didn't go through. The banner replaces the old full-screen verification prompt.
  • On Fluxer.app, the paused messaging banner has a "My text didn't go through" button. It opens a form for emailing support with your account details already filled in.

Improved

Voice and video

  • RNNoise is the default noise suppression. If you had DeepFilterNet selected, the app switches you to RNNoise this one time, and you can pick DeepFilterNet again in "Voice & video" settings.
  • If your device doesn't have a hardware H.264 encoder and you haven't picked a screen share codec in "Advanced" settings, the app uses AV1, H.265 or VP9 when your device supports one of them. When the app has to use H.264 in software, your screen share stays at 720p and 30 fps.
  • Stereo microphone mode works in voice channels with a bitrate of 64 kbps or higher, down from 128 kbps. You still need to turn off all audio processing to use it, and the mic test plays back in stereo too.
  • When you're watching a screen share that has audio, you can change that stream's volume or mute it with the volume control in the corner of the call view.
  • In the voice connection panel, people's avatars are 32 pixels, up from 20.
  • While DeepFilterNet is loading, or if the noise suppression you picked can't start, your mic uses standard noise suppression, and "Voice & video" settings tells you which one is in use.
  • The input sensitivity slider goes low enough for quiet microphones to trigger voice activity.

Messages and communities

  • The create channel window has a new design with a "Private channel" switch, and an optional second step lets you add the members or roles who can see the channel.
  • Importing a Discord community template brings over forum and media channels, and stage channels become voice channels. Forum and media channels keep their tags, guidelines and default reaction emoji.
  • The desktop app can load a Discord community template from its link, and it explains what went wrong when it can't load one.
  • Communities without an icon show the same initials everywhere in the app, and the letters shrink to fit inside the icon. Reported by Fullest in #3303.
  • Reporting a message, user or community walks you through the reasons one step at a time, with a summary to check before you send and a thank-you screen after. If you pick certain reasons, the app explains that what you're reporting doesn't break the rules on its own and doesn't send a report.
  • The welcome line at the top of a channel says "This is the start of #channel-name".
  • When you send a YouTube link, we remove its is= share tracking parameter. We already removed the si= and pp= parameters.
  • If there's an ongoing service incident while the app is reconnecting, the reconnecting banner shows the incident's name and links to the details.

Accounts and settings

  • The account switcher shows each account's instance under its name, along with the keyboard shortcut that opens the switcher. Suggested by Falco in #3653.
  • Account security settings are grouped into cards for sign-in methods, two-factor authentication, passkeys, apps and devices, and disabling or deleting your account. Each passkey shows when it was added and last used.
  • The privacy settings page explains each option in plain words, including who can call you, add you to group chats and send you friend requests. "Silent calls from everyone" is renamed to "Receive calls silently".
  • Teen accounts can choose to blur or block media in group chats and in direct messages from people who aren't their friends.
  • If the emails we send you keep bouncing, the verification banner has a button for adding an address that works.
  • On Windows and Linux, Alt+← and Alt+→ go back and forward by default. On macOS, back and forward stay ⌘[ and ⌘]. On every platform, including macOS, Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab switch between communities and direct messages, and Ctrl+' starts a call in a direct message or group chat.
  • The redesigned Plutonium page is out for everyone.
  • On Windows, text uses the Windows system font, Segoe UI. You'll see a notice once with a "Switch back to Fluxer Sans" button, and you can change it later with the "Use Fluxer Sans on Windows" setting in "Advanced" settings.
  • When you scroll back or return to a channel, images you've already seen show up without loading again. The app keeps up to 192 MB of recently shown images in memory to do this.
  • If you pay for Plutonium through Google Play or the App Store, the Plutonium page shows which store bills you and when your subscription renews or ends. A "Manage subscription" button opens the store, and if a store renewal payment fails, the page shows how long your perks stay active while you update your payment method there.

Fixed

Messages

  • Fixed your reply failing to send when the message you were replying to got deleted and the reply bar stayed above the message box. Reported by Solaris in #3114.
  • Fixed ↑ picking a message you forwarded when you pressed it to edit your last message.
  • Fixed the message box breaking when you pasted text with lots of emoji shortcodes. Reported by Fullest in #3917.

  • Fixed personal notes having no search bar and getting left out when you searched all your direct messages.
  • Fixed reactions and stickers getting blurred or hidden in age-restricted channels.
  • Fixed link previews in forwarded messages showing without a spoiler when the original link was spoilered.
  • Fixed forwarded messages showing a different icon for the channel they came from than the sidebar shows.
  • Fixed messages that mention @everyone or one of your roles losing their highlight when you had suppressed those mentions in the community's notification settings. Suppressed mentions still stay out of your mentions feed.
  • Fixed messages that mention you losing their highlight when you hovered over them next to blocked messages.
  • Fixed system messages about a blocked user getting hidden and counted as blocked messages.
  • Fixed emoji in the emoji picker staying blank when they failed to load. The app tries again up to three times.
  • Fixed middle-clicking a link in an embed, image, profile or message skipping the warning about leaving Fluxer that a normal click shows. Reported by Fullest in #3307.

Threads and forums

  • Fixed thread member lists not scrolling when a thread had many members. Reported by bizo in #3682.
  • Fixed thread member lists showing only online or offline for each member. They show each member's status and custom status, like other member lists.
  • Fixed thread member lists going out of date after you reconnected or after someone left the community.
  • Fixed the header buttons covering the channel name when a thread was open beside the channel. Reported by SteveLinkNoah in #3688.
  • Fixed threads you've joined in a muted community not lighting up in the sidebar when they had new messages. Reported by TakoSalad in #3696.

Voice and video

  • Fixed your microphone muting or unmuting by itself after you toggled mute quickly. Reported by emilia in #3624.
  • Fixed not being able to mute yourself while push-to-talk was on. When you're muted, holding the key sends no audio until you unmute. Reported by yofukashino in #704 and suggested by mandss in #3985.
  • Fixed your microphone sounding choppy or crackly to others while the app was minimized or out of focus. Reported by LucaFagnoni in #906.

  • Fixed your microphone staying in use after you left a call that had moved to another voice server.
  • Fixed peer-to-peer calls getting stuck with one-way audio.
  • Fixed screen shares getting lost when a peer-to-peer call switched to a standard call.
  • Fixed AV1 and VP9 being unavailable for screen sharing in Firefox. When screen share quality is set to automatic, Firefox uses VP8.
  • Fixed H.264 screen sharing failing in Firefox on Linux. The app doesn't offer H.264 there.

  • Fixed dialogs that opened during a full-screen call getting stuck after you left full screen, such as after a camera or microphone permission prompt in Firefox. Reported by Matty in #875.
  • Fixed the voice output device setting not applying in Firefox 123 or later (145 or later on macOS). In browsers that can't choose an output device for voice, the setting is grayed out and says voice uses your system's output device.

Accounts and sign-in

  • Fixed avatars, community icons and banners staying blank after they failed to load. The app tries again after a short wait and when you come back to the window, and it reloads images that failed as soon as your internet connection is back.
  • Fixed saved accounts in the account switcher showing the wrong avatar for accounts on other instances and not updating after you changed your avatar. Reported by Eyeflame in #2265.
  • Fixed mention badges for your other signed-in accounts counting old mentions in channels those accounts can't see anymore. Reported by Wilt in #3641.

  • Fixed the community list not updating after you switched accounts while adding a bot. It also updates when you come back to the window.
  • Fixed the /app address getting stuck on a loading screen. It waits for your session to load, then takes you into the app, or to the login page if you're signed out. Reported by defaultuser0 in #3881.
  • Fixed tapping your avatar in your own profile preview on mobile web trapping you in the preview. Tapping it lets you change your avatar, and the profile window opens centered. Reported by AxtraFire in #555.
  • Fixed mobile push notifications not being sent when the app was open but you'd been away from it for longer than the "Push notification inactive timeout" in "Notifications" settings. Moving the mouse and scrolling count as activity.

  • Fixed the web app missing new versions on a flaky connection and loading the old version when you reloaded. It checks for a new version every 5 minutes, and a failed check doesn't make it forget an update it already found.
  • Fixed the app not letting you subscribe during the short grace period after gifted Plutonium time ends. The Plutonium page shows when that grace period ends.
  • Fixed the Plutonium window overflowing at narrow widths. Reported by Fullest in #3005.
  • Fixed Indonesian, Turkish and Vietnamese using different words for "instance" in different parts of the app.
  • Fixed Ukrainian using more than one word for emoji.
  • Fixed the French notice about paused messaging reading awkwardly.
  • Fixed turning off a built-in keyboard shortcut not taking effect until you reloaded the app. Turned-off shortcuts show as "Disabled" in "Shortcuts" settings, and their menu has "Re-enable built-in shortcut".

Layout

  • Fixed cut, copy, paste and spelling suggestions from the message box right-click menu sometimes not applying to the text. Reported by Juest Zungo in #3631.
  • Fixed right-clicking a password field in the desktop app showing no menu. It shows the copy and paste menu without spellcheck options. Reported by Fullest in #3435.

  • Fixed switches having an extra invisible Tab stop on their label. Reported by Tempest in #3646.
  • Fixed the keyboard shortcut for moving between direct messages not following the order in the sidebar.

Desktop app

These changes are in the desktop app itself on Windows, macOS and Linux. When a change only applies to some of them, its bullet says which.

On Linux, the Flathub version is behind and doesn't have most of these changes yet. Here's how to switch to our official Flatpak.

New

  • You can add accounts from different Fluxer instances to the account switcher, and accounts on Fluxer.app show the Fluxer badge. Reported by dunny in #3625.
  • When you sign in through your browser, the browser sends you back to the desktop app and you don't have to type a code. If you didn't start a sign-in request, you can decline it in the browser. To sign in with a browser on a different device, choose "Signing in on another device?", sign in on that device and enter the code the desktop app shows you.
  • You can check for updates from the app menu on macOS, the Help menu on Windows and Linux, and the tray menu. A dialog tells you whether you're up to date, an update is ready or the check failed.
  • With "Disable automatic updates" under "Advanced" turned on, the app doesn't install updates when it starts, and you can install a waiting update whenever you like. The setting takes effect the next time the app starts. The --disable-module-updates launch flag and the FLUXER_DISABLE_MODULE_UPDATES environment variable turn updates off completely for that launch. Suggested by PJOrange in #4029.
  • While the app updates, the startup screen shows download progress and speed. If a download stalls, an update fails or startup takes longer than 30 seconds, the screen shows "Copy diagnostics" and "Open logs" buttons.
  • The tray icon shows a dot when you have unread messages or mentions. On macOS, the dock also shows a dot when you have unread messages but no mentions. Suggested by Tim in #4018.
  • On Windows and Linux, the tray icon is monochrome to match your taskbar, and the "Use colored tray icon" setting switches back to the full-color icon. Suggested by Tim in #4019.
  • On Windows, when your screen share includes audio, you can choose which playback devices the audio comes from in the "Playback devices" menu of your stream settings.
  • On Linux, global shortcuts and push-to-talk work on Wayland through your desktop environment's shortcut settings, with guided setup for GNOME, KDE and Hyprland. Shortcuts that use X11 or listen to your input devices directly still work.
  • The "Start minimized" setting opens the app in the system tray, or the menu bar on macOS, when it launches at login. It needs "Launch Fluxer at login" and the tray icon turned on. Suggested by dCo3lh0 in #1300.
  • Themes you import from CSS files or a folder in Theme Studio stay linked to those files, and when you save a change in any editor, the app applies it. You can link an existing theme to a file, or unlink a theme to get a copy you can edit in Theme Studio. If a linked file goes missing or can't be opened, the theme keeps its last loaded version.

Improved

  • The desktop app comes with the Fluxer interface built in, and the interface gets its own updates separate from the app. The app opens as soon as it's installed and doesn't download the interface every time it starts.
  • When an update is ready, the app waits for you to install it. An update icon shows in the channel header, and the tray menu has "Update Fluxer now", which installs the update and reloads the window. The app only restarts when the desktop app itself has a new version, and on Windows and macOS a waiting update installs the next time you start the app.
  • When an update needs a new version of the desktop app itself, the update icon in the channel header shows a download arrow. The icon spins while an update you started is downloading.
  • When we release an update, the app finds it within a couple of minutes, and "Check for updates" always does a fresh check.
  • The app downloads large extras when you first need them, like Chinese, Japanese and Korean fonts, code highlighting for each programming language, noise suppression and camera effects.
  • When you see an image or video again, the desktop app loads it from its cache.
  • On Linux, an out-of-date app doesn't block you with an update screen. It keeps getting the interface updates that work with your version, and when a new version of the desktop app is out, the app tells you to update from your software center or package manager. Reported by Modulus in #3767.
  • On Linux, when the app can't find a hardware video encoder it can use, the screen share picker says that sharing uses software encoding.
  • On Windows, unread badges on the taskbar are sharp at every display scale, and the "Use dark taskbar badge" setting shows them in dark gray.
  • On Linux, our Flatpak can use security keys and smart cards when you sign in with single sign-on.
  • "Report issue" in the Help menu and the bug tracker link in the Linux app store listing take you to Fluxer Feedback.

Fixed

  • Fixed update checks stopping after an earlier check stalled.
  • Fixed the app on Windows never trying an update again after it failed to install. It tries again once a newer release is out.

  • Fixed the app giving up on connecting over slow networks. Reported by KewKo in #3699.
  • Fixed messages and images getting stuck loading in the desktop app when it made lots of requests at once.
  • Fixed the desktop app skipping the warning about leaving Fluxer for sites that aren't trusted when you opened a link from somewhere other than a message. Links in messages already showed it.
  • Fixed Theme Studio failing to start when you opened it in its own window. Reported by Mon in #3618.
  • Fixed shared themes failing to load or preview in Fluxer Canary on desktop. Reported by Crimson Ghostpaw ♡ in #3703.
  • Fixed closing the window in full screen on macOS leaving you on a black screen. The app leaves full screen before it closes the window. Reported by Mizarc in #3486.
  • Fixed the app not opening on Intel Macs after an update. Reported by lily<3 in #3947.
  • Fixed Alt+Tab, the volume pop-up and the Start menu lagging on Windows 10 while you shared a single window. Reported by owenxm in #3388.
  • Fixed the browser's own badge replacing the red unread badge on the Windows taskbar.
  • Fixed the tray icon showing too small on Linux with KDE Plasma. Reported by _ in #4042.
  • Fixed a shortcut bound to F13 also firing when you pressed the ⊞ Win key. Reported by Mizarc in #3248.
  • Fixed binding a shortcut to Scroll Lock on Windows also binding it to the F key. Reported by RDibben in #3488.
  • Fixed apps you saved in the Linux screen share audio picker disappearing from it when they weren't running. They stay in the list, and you can remove them.

  • Fixed Fluxer Canary crashing on startup before you signed in. Reported by Oskar in #3868.
  • Fixed Fluxer Canary failing to start on networks where IPv6 doesn't work, such as some VPNs. The app tries each IPv6 and IPv4 address it finds and uses the first one that connects. Reported by Fullest in #3637.

iOS and Android

The mobile apps are still in public beta. Everything here shipped in betas 1 through 8 of version 2026.10.100. When a change is only on iOS or only on Android, the bullet says so.

New

Threads, forums and channels

Threads and forums are on for everyone on iOS and Android too. They're still in early beta, and if something breaks, please report it on Fluxer Feedback.

  • You can use threads, forum channels and announcement threads in the app. You can create, browse, join, mute and manage threads, and the thread browser has "Active" and "Closed" tabs and a search bar.
  • In a forum post, messages from the person who started the post show an "OP" tag.
  • If you can manage channels, you can create a channel from a category's menu and move a channel to another category from the channel's menu.
  • If you turn on "Open communities to your last channel" under "Look & feel", tapping a community opens the last channel you viewed there. If it's off, opening a community still shows that channel as selected in the channel list. Suggested by Jonah in #4045.
  • You can create announcement channels and publish their messages to every channel that follows them. If you can manage webhooks in a community, you can make one of its channels follow an announcement channel. To stop following, go to "Webhooks" in community settings.

Messages

  • New messages slide into the chat, even when several come in at once, and deleted messages fold away.
  • You can choose what double-tapping a message does. It can add a reaction, edit the message if it's yours or do nothing, and you can pick which emoji it reacts with. The setting is under "Chat" > "Gestures" and syncs across your devices. Reported by Dinosaur Gnatalie in #3792 and suggested by PolarSky in #3612.
  • You can make swiping right to left on a message open channel details in a side panel. Pick it under "Swipe right to left" in "Chat" > "Gestures", and when it's set, tapping the channel header opens the panel too. Suggested by multimokia in #3982.
  • SVG images in attachments and embeds show in chat and in the media viewer.
  • Links to "Discovery" and "Favorites" in messages open those pages in the app.
  • In the list of who reacted, tapping a person opens their profile, and the list shows the emoji's name. Suggested by Spax in #3981.
  • Group chat owners can remove a member by long-pressing them in the group's member list. Reported by Maple~ 💚 in #2237.

Calls and notifications

  • You can start or join opt-in peer-to-peer calls, and once everyone agrees to share their IP address, audio and video go directly between participants for lower latency. A voice channel's menu has "Start P2P call", and "Switch to standard call" moves everyone in the call to a standard call. On iOS, screen sharing isn't available in peer-to-peer calls yet. Peer-to-peer calls are an early preview that we're rolling out gradually, and you might not have them yet.
  • If you're signed in to more than one account, notifications and incoming calls for your other accounts show up while the app is open. Accepting a call for another account switches to that account and joins the call. Reported by probablyjassin in #2263.
  • On Android, if you use the UnifiedPush version of the app, you get notifications for every account you're signed in to.
  • On Android, message notifications use Android's conversation style, and each channel or direct message conversation shows up to 10 recent messages in one notification.

Accounts and settings

  • On instances that use usernames, you can sign up and sign in with a username and save a recovery kit to reset a forgotten password. You can save the kit as an image and include your two-factor backup codes in it. Reported by TawnyBaiji and frenzeldk in #3647 and #3684.
  • If messaging is paused on your account, a banner tells you, and you can email support from it with your account details filled in.
  • Reporting a message or profile walks you through the report step by step, with a summary to check before you send. After you send it, a confirmation screen lets you block the person.
  • You can change individual theme colors on your device under "Look & feel" > "Theme colors". Two switches let you choose whether color changes from Theme Studio on desktop apply on your device and whether changes you make on your device show up in Theme Studio.
  • You can copy a link to a settings page or section with the link button next to its title. Suggested by PolarSky in #3616.
  • On Fluxer.app, you can open Fluxer Feedback with "Give feedback" in "Settings".
  • The "You" tab has a "Set status" row that shows your current or custom status.
  • On Android, you can pick an alternate app icon, including "Brutalist", "Greyscale", "Rainbow", "Chromatic aberration", "Starfield", "Sweden" and "Waves". The app asks before it restarts to apply the new icon.
  • On iOS, you can pick from more alternate app icons, including "Greyscale", "Rainbow", "Waves", "Chromatic aberration" and "Brutalist".
  • On Android, if you installed the app from Google Play, you can subscribe to Plutonium on Fluxer.app through Google Play.

Improved

Messages and composer

  • A message you're sending with attachments shows a thumbnail and a progress bar, and you can cancel it, or retry it if it fails. If you leave the app while it uploads, the upload keeps going, but on iOS it only keeps going for as long as the system allows.
  • Photos and videos you pick from your gallery upload as the original file with their original name, and HEIC photos are converted before they upload.
  • If older or newer messages fail to load, the chat says so and lets you try again.
  • You can filter message search by who sent a message, who it mentions, date and channel, and by whether it's pinned or has links, files or embeds. Results have tabs for messages, images, pins, links and files, and you can remove a recent search or clear them all. Suggested by anon_xd in #3878.
  • In the media viewer, long-pressing opens the options menu, and its "Forward" button works. You can download GIFs and media from embeds, and pinching to zoom doesn't swipe the viewer away. Reported by Spax and Eyeflame in #2293 and #3496.
  • When something fails, the app tells you why, like the web app does. That includes friend requests, sending messages, joining a community or a voice channel, moderation actions and purchases.
  • As you type, the message box grows up to five lines tall and then scrolls.
  • The voice message recording bar and the notice in announcement channels have new designs.
  • LaTeX code blocks show more kinds of math.

Communities and navigation

  • The "You" tab has a "Switch accounts" row that shows your other accounts, or an "Add an account" row if you're signed in to only one. Suggested by Floogle in #3836.
  • Long-pressing a community in the sidebar opens its full menu in a panel as soon as your phone vibrates.
  • When you drag a community or folder in the sidebar, it moves with an animation and stays inside the sidebar, and the list scrolls when you drag to the top or bottom. Dropping a community next to another one is less likely to make a folder by accident. Reported by floosh in #3288.
  • The community banner at the top of the channel list collapses as you scroll, and it keeps its size while the list loads. Reported by anon_xd in #2295.
  • Community icons in the sidebar change from a circle to a rounded square when you select or press them, and mention badges are rounded squares.
  • The channel list and the direct messages list open scrolled to the conversation you're in.
  • The screen for creating a channel has a new design, and you can make the channel private and pick which members and roles can see it.
  • On iPhone, when a panel opens on top of another one, the one behind it shrinks back, like it does in Safari.
  • On iOS, full-screen pages like adding a community or creating a channel close when you swipe down.
  • Older confirmation prompts use the same panel design as the rest of the app.

Calls

  • On phones, the stream you're watching takes the main spot in a call, and video tiles stay clear of the call controls.
  • Your screen share is capped at 720p and 30 fps, even if you can normally stream at higher quality. Reported by Rey Jonas in #2267.
  • In "Grid" view, tapping someone pins them inside the grid without switching to "Focus" view, and tapping them again unpins them.
  • Your avatar shows on your own tile while you're connecting to a call.
  • On phones, when you join a voice channel you're already in on another device, the prompt asking what to do slides up from the bottom of the screen.
  • Video in a call keeps playing without reloading when you minimize the call or open it again.

Settings, performance and privacy

  • Your recently used emoji, stickers, saved media, mentions and channels sync across your devices. The mature content warnings you've accepted and your camera uploads setting sync too.
  • The main settings screen has a new design, and your name and avatar at the top open your profile settings.
  • The Plutonium page in settings has a new design that matches the website. It follows the light theme and stutters less as you scroll.
  • If you have Plutonium from a gift, you can start a paid subscription right away. You're charged when you subscribe, and your remaining gift time is added after the paid period.
  • Crash reporting works on iOS too, and it's off until you turn it on in "Advanced" settings.
  • We removed the phone number section and the SMS verification prompts from the app.
  • If the app and an instance aren't compatible, a message tells you whether to update the app or ask the instance admins to update Fluxer.
  • The instance picker suggests fluxer.com as the address of Fluxer.app.
  • Text that was still in English is translated into every language the app supports.
  • Up to five animated images play at a time in chat, and the rest stay paused.
  • Full-screen videos from chat stutter less, and on Android, videos in chat use less battery.
  • The app uses less memory, especially on Android.
  • Typing indicators, loading spinners and presence updates use less battery.
  • Channel lists load faster when you switch communities.
  • The app does less work in the background to keep unread counts up to date.
  • Theme links shared in chat say that you can only import themes in the web or desktop app, and the import button on them is turned off.

Self-hosting

These changes are for instance admins, and most of them are in new images on the default v1 tag. The rest are in the installer, the Helm chart and the docs.

New

  • There's an official Helm chart for running a complete Fluxer instance on Kubernetes. It's in deploy/helm/fluxer in the Fluxer repository and isn't published to a chart repository. The Kubernetes guide explains how to install it from a clone of the Fluxer repository. Suggested by jbmay in #966.
  • Instance admins can turn on peer-to-peer calls under "Peer-to-peer voice" on the "Instance Config" page in the admin panel. It's off by default. You choose who gets it by percentage of users, by country or by specific users or communities. You also decide whether premium users are included and how many people a call can have, from 2 to 4.
  • New instances can let people sign up and sign in with just a username. If someone forgets their password, a recovery kit they can download or print gets them back in. You pick username or email sign-in in the setup wizard, or with FLUXER_ACCOUNT_IDENTITY before the first start, and on email instances you also set FLUXER_TAG_STYLE. Instances that were already running stay on email sign-in. On username instances, every sign-up, sign-in and recovery screen asks for a username, and the instance doesn't need to send email. Reported by Tomo in #3709.
  • Pending registrations have their own page under "Moderation" in the admin panel, with a count badge in the sidebar. Reviewing them needs the new registration:review ACL. The Admin API lists them at GET /v1/admin/instance/pending-registrations and leaves them out of the instance config response. Suggested by IamLurking, thefathacker, obergabe and MisterT in #648, #1260, #1463 and #3961.
  • You can load a setting from a file, such as a Docker secret, by adding _FILE to the end of the setting's name and setting it to the file's path. Every Fluxer service supports it, but the bundled SeaweedFS, Meilisearch and LiveKit containers don't. FLUXER_ENV, LOG_LEVEL, FLUXER_DISABLE_RATE_LIMITS and the FLUXER_ERLANG_* settings other than FLUXER_ERLANG_COOKIE need plain values. Reported by glyph in #3854.
  • A new instance asks for a setup token before you can create the first admin account. The installer prints it and saves it as FLUXER_SETUP_TOKEN in .env, and an instance set up without that variable writes its token to the api log on the first start. The mobile apps have no field for the token, and you have to do the setup in a browser.
  • Instance admins can upload the icon, symbol, logo, wordmark and favicon images on the "Instance Config" page of the admin panel.
  • Instance admins can set the screen share bitrate limit from 1 to 50 Mbps with "Max Screen Share Bitrate" under the new "Voice & Video" category in "Limit Config". The default is 9 Mbps. Raising it also raises the automatic bitrate of every screen share quality, and accounts with Higher Video Quality can pick their own bitrate up to that limit. Suggested by Unvarying8964 in #3479.
  • If you run a push server such as ntfy on your own network, your instance can send push notifications to it once you add its hostname to FLUXER_PUSH_SERVICE_PRIVATE_HOSTS.
  • Every email an instance sends can have a Reply-To address, set with FLUXER_EMAIL_REPLY_TO_EMAIL.
  • The admin email blocklist accepts whole domains written as @example.com, and a domain entry also blocks its subdomains.
  • Instance admins with the report:delete ACL can delete a report, unless it's under a legal hold.

Improved

  • You can pick how outgoing email connects (implicit TLS, STARTTLS, opportunistic or none) in the admin panel or with FLUXER_EMAIL_SMTP_TLS_MODE. If you don't set it in either place and haven't set the older FLUXER_EMAIL_SMTP_SECURE, port 465 uses implicit TLS and other ports use STARTTLS. "Save and test" sends a test email with the same saved SMTP settings that outgoing email uses. Reported by tetrahydrocannabin0l and TyNavarre in #634 and #3476.
  • A daily job deletes resolved reports once they've been resolved for the number of days set in FLUXER_REPORT_RETENTION_DAYS. The default is 365 days. Reports with a legal hold, child safety reports and reports tied to an enforcement decision can be kept longer than the number you set. The FLUXER_RESOLVED_REPORT_RETENTION_DAYS setting is gone.
  • When you run the installer with --update (install.sh on Linux and macOS or install.ps1 on Windows), it first checks whether your copy of the installer is out of date. If it is, the installer asks before replacing itself, and if you say no, it stops without changing anything.
  • The installer downloads every container image before the first start, and if a download fails, it stops with an error before starting anything.
  • Fluxer artwork is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0. GOVERNANCE.md lets anyone distribute unmodified or lightly patched builds under the Fluxer name and logo. Self-hosted instances running those builds can show the name and logo as long as they don't suggest they're connected to Fluxer.
  • When the API goes through a large database table, it loads one page of rows at a time and doesn't reload the whole table for every page.
  • The docs list which apps work with your own instance.
  • We removed the setup wizard's warning that username sign-in is still coming to the mobile apps.
  • The docs explain that your reverse proxy needs TLS 1.2 turned on for videos to play in the mobile apps, and they list the setting for each common proxy.
  • The docs give the right settings for voice signaling on a separate hostname. They also explain what you lose without backups of the Valkey and Meilisearch volumes.

Fixed

  • Fixed people who sign up through SSO not joining the community automatically on single-community instances and instances with an auto-join invite. Reported by andyndim and dia-nico in #888 and #3489.
  • Fixed approved accounts not joining the community from their invite or from FLUXER_AUTO_JOIN_INVITE_CODE on instances that approve new sign-ups. Reported by dander in #3887.
  • Fixed people who signed up through an invite link on instances that approve new sign-ups getting stuck after approval with no way to sign in. When a sign-up needs approval, the form asks for a password, and on email instances it also asks for an email address. Reported by KeckigerKeks in #682.
  • Fixed SSO sign-in not working on self-hosted instances. SSO providers on a private network can be discovered automatically when FLUXER_SSO_ALLOW_PRIVATE_ADDRESSES is on. Reported by PaulMColeman in #326.
  • Fixed a brand-new instance opening the sign-in page in the web app when it should have opened the setup wizard.
  • Fixed self-hosted instances running in development mode when FLUXER_ENV wasn't set. With FLUXER_SELF_HOSTED=true, the default is production, but if you set FLUXER_ENV yourself, your value is used.
  • Fixed pages failing to load when FLUXER_TRUST_CLIENT_IP_HEADER was set to anything other than true. When it's off, the API uses the IP address the connection comes from. Reported by Tarek in #698.
  • Fixed uploads failing on object storage providers that refuse to copy files between buckets, and on setups that keep everything in a single S3 bucket. Reported by D1reW0lf and dander in #868 and #3926.
  • Fixed downloads failing for attachments over 500 MiB on instances that allow uploads that big. Reported by valtteri in #600.
  • Fixed videos showing only as a download, with no player, on instances that give the media service little memory. Reported by defaultuser0 in #3875.
  • Fixed audio and video files over 500 MiB having no metadata or poster frame. Reported by KrowLionHeart in #721.
  • Fixed the avatar, emoji and sticker size limits you set being ignored, including for GIFs. Reported by KeckigerKeks and MrRubberDucky in #775 and #643.
  • Fixed changes to attachment expiry not applying to files uploaded before the change. Reported by Falco in #672.
  • Fixed changes to the "Default" and "Premium" limits in "Limit Config" not saving. Features you uncheck are saved as off, and "Reset to Defaults" resets a rule. Switching the premium model keeps the values you edited. Reported by Delta in #3708.
  • Fixed limit rules for user traits not applying to users who have the trait. Reported by kaibsora in #3490.
  • Fixed plan comparison tables showing Fluxer.app's plans and ignoring your instance's limit config. Reported by FantasyDragon14 in #3655.
  • Fixed users with the premium trait being unable to set per-community profiles in tiered mode. Reported by thefathacker in #694.
  • Fixed self-hosted instances pointing people to Fluxer's legal pages and its support, safety and appeals addresses, and sending emails that used the Fluxer name. Links to the terms and community guidelines use the addresses you set in "Instance Config".
  • Fixed direct messages from the system account showing Fluxer's name and logo in place of the instance's. Reported by penguin in #900.
  • Fixed the instance theme color not applying across the app. It accepts short or long hex values and can be reset in the setup wizard. Picking black counts as no theme color and keeps the default brand color. Reported by Monzi in #814.
  • Fixed custom branding images hosted on another domain not loading.
  • Fixed the browser tab showing Fluxer's name and icon, including while the app was still loading. The page title, favicon and install icon use your branding from the start, and the unread badge on the tab icon updates when branding changes. Reported by Monzi and penguin in #849 and #901.
  • Fixed branding images breaking after your instance's media address changed.
  • Fixed the sign-in screen on phones showing a wordmark that didn't match your branding. The redesigned sign-in screen has no wordmark on any platform. Reported by probablyjassin in #865.
  • Fixed the startup error screen and some voice menus saying Fluxer in place of your instance's name. The error screen links to your status page when you've set one.
  • Fixed the admin dashboard showing Fluxer's name and branding on self-hosted instances.
  • Fixed user banners getting cut off in the admin panel. Reported by honeywellz in #781.
  • Fixed the last media retention fields in the setup wizard being cut off in short windows. Each wizard step scrolls when it doesn't fit. Reported by Matty in #877.
  • Fixed browser push notifications from self-hosted instances showing the Fluxer badge icon.
  • Fixed the web report form asking for an email address on username instances. On instances without email, it says reports have to be made in the app.
  • Fixed gift codes made in the admin panel showing the system account as their creator. They show the admin who made them.
  • Fixed clicks in the admin panel doing nothing when a sign-in proxy in front of it blocked the request. The page reloads, and the proxy shows its sign-in page.
  • Fixed the media proxy refusing requests from the desktop app when FLUXER_MEDIA_PROXY_CORS_MODE is enforce. The media proxy always allows the desktop app, and you don't need to add fluxer-app://app to FLUXER_MEDIA_PROXY_CORS_ALLOWED_ORIGINS.
  • Fixed the installer telling Fedora users to install docker-ce. It gives the Fedora steps (Podman with docker-compose), and if you use podman-compose, it stops early and shows a message. Reported by Justinzobel in #887.
  • Fixed upgrades with the installer hanging after copying the uploads folder.
  • Fixed the Docker Compose file failing on older Docker engines that don't support the healthcheck start_interval setting.
  • Fixed instances sometimes failing to start when NATS only had an IPv4 address or when services started at the same time.
  • Fixed search indexing running out of memory on machines with many CPU cores. Indexing uses 2 threads by default, and you can change it with FLUXER_MEILISEARCH_MAX_INDEXING_THREADS.
  • Fixed FLUXER_POSTGRES_SSL=false being ignored when a Postgres URL is set. If the URL sets sslmode to anything other than prefer, that setting still wins.

Fluxer Feedback site

New

  • The Bounties board lists bugs our reviewers can't reproduce yet. If a reviewer uses the steps you post, you get the bounty's XP. The board shows the top XP earners for this month and all time, and your profile shows your XP.
  • If a bug marked fixed still happens, the person who posted it can press "Still happening" to send it back to us and tell us what they tried, their build and their platform. For a shipped feature request, the button is "Not resolved". A post can be sent back once each time we close it.
  • You can choose to follow every new bug report or every new feature request automatically, in the "Notifications" section of "Settings". Suggested by SteveLinkNoah in #3578.
  • You can filter post lists by several tags at once and hide posts with tags you don't want.
  • Each post shows related posts and the other posts that mention it.
  • The changelog lists code changes merged since the last release, and posts show the pull requests linked to them.
  • A Feeds page lists every Atom feed you can follow.
  • Every page has its own preview card when you share a link to it.
  • You can pick a narrow page width in the footer or in settings. You can also search the time zone list in settings. Suggested by hasheleven and frenzeldk in #3765 and #3713.

Improved

  • You can filter post lists by several statuses at once, and the status filter has "Select all" and lets you Shift-click to pick a range. Suggested by Jackuczys in #3570.
  • You can sort search results and filter them by status, author and tag, and "quoted phrases" match exactly. Suggested by Jackuczys in #3551 and reported by Jackuczys and Fullest in #3843 and #3832.
  • You can filter the posts on a profile by status, type, tag and platform. Your profile also has an "Upvoted" tab with every post you upvoted, and only you can see it. Suggested by Jackuczys in #3543 and #3560, and reported in #3842.
  • You can paste files into the text box, drag them into the order you want and link to a specific attachment from your text. Suggested by Jackuczys in #3604, #3606 and #3608.
  • The bug report form asks for reproduction steps first, then what you expected and what happened, with examples in the first two boxes. The similar posts the form suggests are ranked by the platform you picked.
  • The site asks before you leave a page with an unsaved comment. Suggested by sodiboo in #3700.
  • We can mark bug reports "Answered" or "Invalid" and feature requests "Answered". Every status badge says whether the post is open or closed.
  • The site uses the dark theme by default and shows everything 10% larger. You can still switch between "System", "Light" and "Dark" in the footer.

Fixed

  • Fixed image attachments being forced into a set shape. Reported by Tempest in #3718.

  • Fixed the system account in moderator bylines being a link to a missing page. Reported by Jackuczys in #3846.
  • Fixed scrolling the tag filter pushing the tags out of view. Reported by hihi217 in #4063.

Also new in September

These are bigger changes from September that we hadn't written about yet.

Fluxer.app

  • We replaced hCaptcha with ALTCHA on Fluxer.app. When you sign up, sign in or do something similar that needs a check, the app solves a small proof-of-work challenge in the background. There's no puzzle to click through and no third-party captcha service, and it works the same in the web, desktop and mobile apps.
  • You can set your time zone in your profile settings, and when someone looks at your profile, they see your local time and how far ahead of or behind them you are. You choose whether everyone, your friends or members of your communities can see it. Those people see your UTC offset but not the time zone you picked. Suggested by Chai in #907.
  • The emoji picker has the new emoji from Unicode 17 in the web and desktop app and on iOS and Android.

Web and desktop app

  • In "Voice & video" settings, you can pick None, WebRTC, Noise gate, Speex, RNNoise, GTCRN or DeepFilterNet for noise suppression. Only the options your browser or device can run show up.
  • From the camera preview in the web and desktop app, you can blur your camera background or replace it with an image or a video. In the web app, these options only show up in browsers that can run camera effects. Uploaded backgrounds can be JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, MP4 or WebM files.
  • Press Ctrl+↑ or Ctrl+↓ (⌘↑ or ⌘↓ on macOS) to start a reply to the message above or below. Hold Shift (⇧ on macOS) as well to edit your own message above or below. You can change both in "Shortcuts" settings.
  • Sending a message that's only a plus sign and an emoji, like +, adds that reaction to the last message in the channel. If you're replying to a message, the reaction goes on that message.
  • Every permission switch in role and channel permission settings has a short description of what it lets members do.
  • Fixed screen shares sometimes not showing up for the people watching them.
  • Fixed screen shares not keeping the resolution, frame rate and bitrate you picked.
  • Fixed screen shares on Windows using the slower software H.264 encoder when your graphics card could encode H.264.

Desktop app

  • Every desktop release and all of its downloads are on GitHub Releases. Suggested by ivan-hc and Raviexthegod in #1049 and #1014.
  • On Windows, there's a portable version that runs from a ZIP file without installing. It keeps its data in a folder next to the app and doesn't update itself. Suggested by sapioit in #1010.
  • On Linux, you can install Fluxer from our apt, dnf and pacman repositories and get updates through your package manager. You'll find the repositories in the Linux downloads.
  • On Linux, the AppImage updates itself when it's in a folder you can write to.
  • Fixed screen share audio on Linux stuttering, skipping or sounding distorted when PipeWire used large audio buffers. Reported by wagnerfs in #799.

iOS and Android

  • When you get a message notification, it shows the avatar of the person who sent the message.
  • You can reply to a message from its notification.
  • When you read a channel on another device, your phone clears that channel's notifications.
  • When someone calls you in a direct message or group chat, your phone rings even if the app is in the background or closed. On iOS, the call shows up the same way a regular phone call does. This is still an early version, and sometimes a call won't ring.
  • In "Look & feel" settings, you can pick a chat wallpaper from colors, gradients, the "Starfield" background or an image of your own, and dim it with a slider. The wallpaper stays on the device you set it on.
  • You can turn on "Show alternative text on images" in "Accessibility" settings to see alt text below images that have it. Suggested by PolarSky in #2174.
  • When you press and hold the Fluxer icon on your home screen, you get shortcuts to "DMs", "Search" and "Notifications".
  • On iOS, the Shortcuts app has Fluxer actions to mute and unmute, join or leave a voice channel and set your status or custom status. There are also actions to open your direct messages, send a direct message and call a friend.
  • You can delete a community you own from its settings.
  • On iOS, you can change the app icon to "Starfield" or "Sweden" in "App icon" settings.

Self-hosting

  • Self-hosted instances have the same built-in ALTCHA check, and it's turned on by default. Instance admins can turn it off or change how hard the challenge is on the "Instance Config" page in the admin panel. The FLUXER_CAPTCHA_ settings for hCaptcha and Turnstile are gone, and ALTCHA needs no keys or outside account.
  • You can run Postgres or the object store outside the bundled stack by pointing the FLUXER_POSTGRES_* and FLUXER_S3_* settings in .env at them. When Postgres is outside the stack, the installer doesn't back up the database during upgrades. It skips backing up uploads only after you turn off the bundled SeaweedFS with the external-object-store.compose.yml overlay.
  • You can point Fluxer at your own Valkey, NATS, Meilisearch and LiveKit with FLUXER_KV_URL, FLUXER_NATS_URL, FLUXER_SEARCH_URL and FLUXER_LIVEKIT_INTERNAL_URL. Each bundled container keeps running until you remove it with a Compose override file.
  • The external-object-store.compose.yml overlay turns off the bundled SeaweedFS when you use your own object store. It needs Docker Compose 2.24.4 or newer.
  • The installer works with Podman 5 or newer as well as Docker. It uses Podman when Docker isn't installed, and you can pick one with --engine, or -Engine on Windows.
  • The docker-compose.proxy.yml overlay runs Fluxer behind your own reverse proxy, such as nginx, Traefik or Cloudflare Tunnel. Fluxer then serves plain HTTP on 127.0.0.1:8080 by default and leaves ports 80 and 443 and TLS to your proxy. You can change the address with FLUXER_EDGE_BIND.
  • Instances can sell premium subscriptions and gift codes through Stripe, and you can set this up under "Premium & Billing" in the admin panel. Premium goes on sale when the premium model is "Mirror", billing is on, a Stripe secret key is set and at least one currency has both a monthly and a yearly price.
  • Instance admins can limit who creates communities. On the "Instance Config" page, pick "Restricted" under "Who can create communities". Then only admins and people who get "Community Creation Access" from a limit rule can create communities. Suggested by computerfreek in #1232.
  • You can set your own status page under "Public App Identity" in the admin panel, or with FLUXER_APP_STATUS_PAGE_URL and FLUXER_APP_STATUS_PAGE_INCIDENT_HISTORY_URL. When connecting takes a while, the loading screen links to your status page. If you haven't set one, the loading screen shows no status links. Reported by DefkieHaust in #699.
  • Fixed the web app breaking with 403 errors when FLUXER_CLIENT_IP_HEADER_NAME was set to anything other than X-Forwarded-For. Reported by Tarek in #697.

For bot developers

  • In a bot's Ready event, guilds has an entry for every community on the shard, with only id and unavailable: true. It used to be an empty array. The Guild Create and Guild Delete events that follow Ready fill them in, one per community.
  • Guild Create events sent to a bot have unavailable: false. The exception is the first Guild Create for a community the bot joined after Ready, which has no unavailable field.

Getting the latest version

How Fluxer updates depends on how you installed it. If something in these notes isn't showing up for you, look for the way you installed it below.

Web

The web app at web.fluxer.app checks for a new version every five minutes and when you come back to the tab. When one is out, a reload icon shows in the channel header. Click it to load the new version.

Desktop

The desktop app has two parts, the app itself and the Fluxer interface inside it. If you have an official install of version 2026.1012 or newer, you get interface updates, and that's how most of the changes in these notes get to you. When one is ready, an update icon shows in the channel header and the tray menu has "Update Fluxer now". To check for an update yourself, choose "Check for updates" in the tray menu, or in the Fluxer menu on macOS. Versions older than 2026.1012 stay on an older interface until the app itself updates.

How the app itself updates depends on how you installed it.

  • The Windows installer and the macOS app update themselves.
  • The Windows portable version doesn't update itself. When a new version is out, the app asks you to download it from the download page.
  • The Linux AppImage updates itself when it's in a folder you can write to.
  • If you use our apt, dnf or pacman repository or our Flatpak, updates come through your package manager or software center like any other app.
  • If you downloaded a .deb or .rpm file by itself, it doesn't get updates. Add our repository from the Linux downloads to keep it up to date.
  • The tar.gz download doesn't update itself.

If the app on Linux won't pick up an update, choose "Restart Fluxer" in the tray menu. A full restart sometimes works when reloading the window doesn't.

Fluxer Canary is a separate app with its own updates. Get it from the Canary download page.

Flathub

We make the Flathub version of Fluxer, but Flathub reviews every update and hasn't finished reviewing our latest one. Until it goes through, the Flathub version is on a build from early October that doesn't get the interface updates in these notes. We're working on getting it updated.

In the meantime, switch to our official Flatpak. It has the same app ID and keeps your data in ~/.var/app/app.fluxer.Fluxer. To check which one you have, run flatpak info app.fluxer.Fluxer and look at the Origin line. If it says flathub, switch with these two commands.

flatpak uninstall app.fluxer.Fluxer
flatpak install https://pkgs.fluxer.com/flatpak/fluxer.flatpakref

If you installed Fluxer with --user, add --user to both commands. Keep the flathub remote, because our Flatpak gets its runtime from there.

Packages made by others

Some people package Fluxer for other stores and package managers. We don't run these, and some are out of date.

  • The fluxer-bin and fluxer-canary-bin packages on the AUR, the Homebrew cask and the winget package all install our own builds and are up to date. On Arch you can also use our pacman repository from the Linux downloads.
  • The fluxer-git package on the AUR hasn't been updated since June. Use fluxer-bin or our pacman repository.
  • The fluxer package in the ForkPrince Scoop bucket installs our portable build and is up to date. It updates when you run scoop update fluxer.
  • The fluxer package in the chrishenn Scoop bucket installs Canary.
  • The Snap called "Fluxer (Unofficial)" hasn't been updated since March. Remove it with sudo snap remove fluxer-tsugu and install one of ours, then sign in again.
  • Fedora's Terra repository has a fluxer package from August, built from Canary code. To switch, tell dnf to skip Terra's package, add our repository and upgrade.
sudo dnf config-manager setopt terra.excludepkgs='fluxer*'
sudo curl -fsSL -o /etc/yum.repos.d/fluxer.repo https://pkgs.fluxer.com/rpm/fluxer.repo
sudo dnf upgrade --refresh fluxer
  • Gentoo GURU's fluxer-canary-bin is a Canary build from late September. Use our Flatpak, AppImage or tar.gz.
  • Fluxer isn't in nixpkgs, and community flakes vary in how current they are. Our Flatpak or AppImage works on NixOS.
  • Unofficial iOS and Android builds don't get our updates. Use the official apps below.

iOS and Android

The mobile apps are in public beta, and the newest version on GitHub is 2026.10.100 beta 8. New betas sometimes come out on TestFlight and Google Play later than on GitHub.

  • On iOS, join the beta through TestFlight. To get updates, turn on automatic updates in TestFlight, or open it and tap "Update".
  • On Android, the Google Play early access version updates like any other app.
  • The Obtainium links on the Android download page install new GitHub builds and keep them up to date. Pick the first link if your phone has Google Play services and the second if it doesn't.
  • If you downloaded an APK file yourself, it doesn't update on its own. Download the new one from the Android download page, or switch to Google Play or Obtainium.
  • Google Play builds and GitHub builds are signed differently, and you can't install one over the other. To switch, uninstall the app first, then install the other build and sign in again.

What's next

We'll be back next Friday with the next patch notes. In the meantime, our roadmap has what we're working on and what comes after that.

Roadmap 2026
Where Fluxer is headed in 2026 and what we're working on next.

If you'd like to support the work behind these notes, you can donate any amount, as a person or a business. Donations help the open source project keep improving, including for people who self-host Fluxer. On Fluxer.app, subscribing to Plutonium helps too.
